Reinforcement

We offer a wide range of glass fibre mats, rovings and tissues with various advantages in terms of strength, weight and ease of working. We are happy to provide specific advice on the materials required for the job in hand.

Chopped Strand Mat – The most widely used form of reinforcement made by chopping the glass strands into 50mm lengths held together in random directions by a binder. Our ‘E’ glass is an excellent all-rounder with a very low alkali content allowing rapid resin penetration with a medium to high level of lamination.

Woven Rovings – These are simply bundles of parallel glass fibre strands (rovings) that are woven into a heavy, open weave fabric. They can be used specifically for reinforcing areas such as square edges or be used alone or in conjunction with CSM where a high tensile strength is needed.

Chopped Strands – These are ‘E’ glass fibres chopped into lengths from ¼” to ½”. Easy to handle that are used to impart strength in edges or corners. Chopped strands can also be used to increase the strength in plaster helping to avoid brittleness.

Surface Tissues – Used as a finishing product, this very thin tissue of fibreglass has excellent weather and chemical resistance. It is ideal for improved surface finishes and once fully sealed with a resin or gelcoat can impart added strength to GRP products.
